New Haircuts
The boys received some fairly interesting haircuts. Ben in particular is interested in looking “handsome”. Everyone loves his haircut too. Every morning we can’t leave the house until I “style” it for him. I usually use warm water to brush it in one direction, then gel to mold it. He asks for it in different ways. Some days he wants a “center spike” and wants it to be like metal. Some days parted to the side, which is my favorite, because it makes him look like a little gentleman. Then some days he wants it totally slicked back like a Wall Street banker. He reminds me of the little rich kid in The Little Rascals or Malfoy from Harry Potter.
Ted on the other hand couldn’t care less, so I try to make him look decent on his way out. We keep his hair short because it doesn’t seem to lay right. He likes it combed forward which makes him look like a stooge. Getting him to understand that he needs to be aware of his image and how he comes across continues to take a lot of effort.
Storage In The Garage
Our first home improvement project of the year is complete. We installed two hanging storage shelves in the garage. We have two more left to hang in here as well. We are undergoing a massive reorganization here at the house. We are just out of room, so we’ve decided that in order to maximize our space that we should try to reduce any storage space in the house that we can. This includes the downstairs, which is for the most part storage. The downstairs is the only option we have to squeeze some more living space out of this house, besides a three season room on the back porch.
Hanging the shelving wasn’t that difficult, although I found myself fairly sore by the end of the project. Leslie luckily helped me, and together we worked through the instructions. I rarely take on home projects without her. She is really good at understanding directions and helping me get finished. Now that we moved so much off the floor, we are ready to take delivery of our next big purchase – an outdoor bin. Once that is up, our goal of having a clean garage floor will be complete. We can then move all of the garden tools and supplies to it, then hang the last two storage racks, move everything from downstairs to upstairs, and then start on the renovation of the basement.
Nova Award
The Dan Beard Council sponsored the first Nova Award for Scouts. This is an award designed to teach STEM skills. This focus was on Mathematics. The scouts did some cyphering including a substitution code, then learned Morse code. Next they did some surveys and graphing, some probability, and learning how to measure surface area and volume. Then lots of other videos. He received a patch for it that he can wear on his jacket.
