Strength
I hate to admit this, but I have been a dues paying gym member for probably twenty five years. My first gym was Gold’s Gym and I worked out there all of the time as I was a bachelor without much else to do. I stayed there while they became LA Fitness, then left to join Better Bodies, then left there back to LA Fitness, then back to Better Bodies/Silverlake, then to Bodyshape and NKU Rec Center. Most of these transitions occurred because of job changes and I wanted to be near a gym to workout at lunch. But, why lift all these years? Not everyone does it, so why me?
First off, relaxation. I find it calming to put on noise cancelling headphones and just lift weights. There is something about the repetition and the pump. I like reading about it and learning new movements. My favorite to learn from? Arnold Schwarzenegger. I’ve read several of his books and my lifting is deeply influenced by his advice. He is also the only celebrity I’d want to meet, and that includes all actors, musicians, athletes, and influencers.
What’s more about weight lifting is that I appreciate the strength in general. When I lift, I notice aches and pains go away. So many minor ailments, which collectively bother oneself, stop when strength train. It’s amazing. I never want to give it up. I once helped someone lift a piano. Two others were on one side why I power-squatted that piece of shit up the steps. No issues. I never want to stop.
Let’s talk about walking next…
