Excision, The Nexus Tour

I was checking the local music venues for something interesting and came across Excision’s Nexus Tour. It was coming to a new local music venue that I’ve not visited yet, so my impulse control fell to the wayside and I purchased a ticket. I’l admit, I put the ticket back on the market because I got cold feet, however, I fumbled the posting and decided to just go. I am glad I did as it was ann interesting experience being for sure the oldest person there. So, old man gripe – the music was super loud.  I had earplugs, as I’ve learned to never go to any concert without them after nearly going deaf after a Megadeth show, so I was fine there. But oh the standing, so much standing.

What got me to go in the first place? I like listening to EDM and have for years, although I am not as plugged into the festival scene that’s arisen around it and other types of music. EDM’s become more of a theme in my musical tastes as I work from home and like to listen while I work. I like EDM (and classic instrumental music) because it’s easy to let it fall into the background, like “white noise”, and help me really get into a flow state. I find music with lyrics can be a little distracting. I also like EDM because let’s face it, metal is dead. There’s nothing new coming from that genre, and so there’s just a lot to listen to in EDM. Dubstep is probably my favorite and Excision is a master of the genre.

I spent most of the show near the director/control area in the rear watching the electronics and computers being put to use. It’s a real production for sure. I would love to have those effects for my Halloween show I put on in October! I also stood next to Excision’s fiancée and future mother in law, and they seemed really cool and head banged the entire time. Speaking of which, is this where metal heads went? I heard lots of samples of classic metal songs, including Slayer and Judas Priest. This kind if felt like a metal show with a more diverse crowd, the energy felt the same

The show itself was amazing. I am glad I stayed to the end although I was really tired by the time Excision came on. The show included adaptations of Lord of the Rings, classic video games, Transformers, Godzilla, and other themes I like. There was also scenes from his different festivals, which really made it a “Nexus” event. It was super cool.

Easter With The Family

We had a nice visit with both sides of our family this Easter Weekend. Sunday we went to our old church and saw many friendly faces there. Our current church made their transition into a bigger space on campus, from the original church building to the gym and I didn’t want to be there for it. I will admit, I am highly critical of that decision but I keep that to myself. I’ve not seen many churches that do not decide to transition their gym to a full time worship space when they start using it. It is just too much work and too hard on the furniture and floor to be pulling chairs and setting them back up every weekend. I understand the decision, they want to grow, our area is growing quite quickly now, and if you want to borrow to build there is a factor relative to your income you need to hit, however, that is the only gym in the area that where kids can play youth sports. There wasn’t much for kids to do out here before now and  there’s even less today, especially with the Independence Skateway closing. We all don’t need to drive out to Florence for our kids to do things, we should have some things here at home.
