Wabi Sabi

I don’t get much Asian food choices where I live, so it’s nice to get out and have lunch. It’s not that my family doesn’t care for it, it’s just that they don’t like it as much as I do. I really like all the different cuisines of Asia and there is so much variety in it. I try to make it at home but Asian food is a production thing, lots of chopping and prep with quick cooking. I often don’t have time to do that during my work day and I have a few hacks to help me out when the going gets tough, but for the most part my lunches are leftovers or a sandwich. I also don’t live around anyone who I’d normally have lunch with so if I do go out it is oftentimes by myself, which isn’t bad as it gives me the ability to go and get whatever I want, but I typically prefer to workout instead and not drive all the way out somewhere.

Wabi Sabi in Covington has a nice, affordable bento box that I enjoyed. The only drawback I had was the amount of dressing on the salad, way too much in my opinion. The stir fry was spicy and I like that, and the rice had that perfect stickiness to it. As far as getting there I didn’t experience much in the way of hassle. I honestly dislike going anywhere without off-street parking, in fact I’ve been invited places where there was no parking lot and I just skipped it and went home, I am too old for that anymore. Covington utilizes a parking system and app and I found that easy to use, which means it shouldn’t be too much to come back down here again.

Wood Badge Orientation

I am embarking on Scouting’s top leadership training course. I spent some time this weekend orienteering myself to what is expected of me in the course and what I can expect. I know there are five days total in the training split between two weekends with a break weekend in the middle. I do not know much about the actual course and my guess is it’s being kept a secret for the most bang.

Fifth District Tournament Shoot

I received an impromptu call to come out and shoot at the Fifth District Tournament Shoot. I was surprised because well, to be frank, I am not a very good trap shooter. I am still in the learning stages and I’ve not shot enough to be even in the slightest effective. I am the type of person that with most things starts off slow but slowly progresses over time. That sounds like a sub-optimal approach, and it is, but my catch up is that I never stop progressing. I just keep getting better and better and better. I learned this from watching professional athletes honestly, who hide the amount of work they do. It’s a mistake to think that anyone is naturally good at anything because they don’t see the work that goes behind it, and it can never be heralded enough the act of not getting discouraged and to continue trying until you get it right, and then to continue trying until you can’t get it wrong.

Anyway, I got creamed and kind of embarrassed myself. I kept my head up high though and I will continue trying at this sport and maybe come back next year and compete a little better.
