Factory 52

We made a visit to Factory 52 in Norwood. We ate at the Korean fried chicken place and it was good. Evidently we arrived there before the project was completed as some restaurants were still in the process of being stocked and laid out so perhaps we’ll come back in the future to see it. I will say Decibel was pretty good as we enjoyed our meal there. It’s funny reminiscing about living and working in this area. I remember when this space was just one of the many bombed out, boarded up factories all over Cincinnati. I’m glad to see the renovations and people living there but can’t help but wonder what life was like before the changes that shut this factor down.

At one point the Bicycle Trading Card Company was one of the many factories in Norwood, the most famous and largest at the time being the GM plant where they made the Firebird. Imagine living in a community where you could just walk down the street, get a job with little to no qualifications, and make a decent enough living to afford a home and a middle class lifestyle. Today things are so different. These types of jobs are few and far in between. Now a job that requires no skills pays next to nothing and never will get any better as it’s most likely some type of service job. I grew up in the time of globalization and the great fanfare it brought along with it but I’m not sure we made the right choice here as a nation. Yes, we wanted cheap goods and the economy was supposedly transitioning to a service type but with that brought so much more instability. Is this the reason so many people are struggling today? It seems to me that the middle has hollowed out and that the upper and lower have grown to accommodate it.

Visit To Cincinnati Zoo

Back to see our furry friends at the Cincinnati Zoo. I would love to in the future make a goal of visiting the Cincinnati Zoo once a month year round. The cost of this pass is incredibly afforable, maybe one of the best values in the region. For $100 you can take your entire family as many times as you want that year. Parking is free for members too and they don’t care if you bring in food or snacks. I know why my mom always had a pass here for us, it was an inexpensive way to show your kids a good time on the weekend. I love taking my family here. I used to enjoy taking photographs here also and assembled quite the collection of photos. Perhaps I will do that again and see if I can capture all of the animals here. I think I got pretty close and most likely have them on my hard drive somewhere over the years. We purchased a Canon Rebel digital camera before our trip to Italy many years ago and I found a new purpose with it by taking it to the zoo.

Compound Bow

I took my Bowtech Revolt XL out to Dutchman’s and put some arrows through it. I really love this compound bow. I purchased it because I’ve been in the market for a long time and I hit some metrics that allowed me to earn it. I did choose this over a new set of golf clubs as they are roughly the same price. I would love to give a huge shout out to Rack Attach Archery in Erlanger, KY for setting me up. Finding a bow is really difficult if you’ve never been fitted for one and are in the “plus” category. I have a really wide shoulder span and not many bows are designed for tall people. The Revolt is in fact one of the few bows where my 31 inch draw length is in the middle range, and not exactly at the very top of the range. If there’s one thing that exhausts me, it’s that “one size fits all” where average people get something that fits great and you’re on the last button of the hat or whatever. I hope in the future I get to shoot this bow more, and maybe even hunt with it at some point (although I bought this specifically for target practice and not hunting).
