Visit To Savannah, Georgia

The Trip

We came here during our stay in Hilton Head Island. The drive is so close that it made sense to go in for the day. The drive was great and I enjoyed seeing more of the countryside. It was also our third visit to Georgia this year, perhaps a future place to live? Unfortunately we were not able to get Savannah Banana tickets, those were hard to find, so we planned on parking in town and just walking around instead.

Places

We saw a lot of Savannah. We ended up walking in one direction seeing as many of the little parks that we could. My ultimate goal was to walk back to the main park that Forrest Gump was filmed at (they removed that park bench by the way) and then turn around. I didn’t want our little guys to get too tired as they were hoofing it, but they were great the entire time. We made a few visits to some interesting stores and had some great coffee. We also strolled through a cemetery and that was pretty interesting, reading the plaques and seeing the trees.

Food

I wanted to try shrimp and grits and I’ll admit that was the best dish I’ve had, not that I’ve had a ton of it, but I really enjoyed it. We found this great restaurant along the port with a nice view and ate there. Parking wasn’t too hard to find, I think we got into town a little early and walked around before hand. We noticed later that the traffic became considerably denser and more people on the street. We are early birds anyway because they get the worm! We also had our first Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, not as good as Graeter’s sorry folks.

Notables

We ended up driving pretty far into Savannah to purchase an umbrella so we saw quite a bit more of the area than normal. Who would’ve thought that umbrellas were that hard to get? What was even more notable was that when we purchased one the weather cleared up and was great. Oh well at least we have umbrellas for next time.
