Memorial Day Parade

Our Pack 808 once again marched in the Memorial Day Parade in 2023 here in Independence. Our sponsorship organization is the American Legion, so we make sure to show up and support them. It is a great event, just a short mile or so from Independence’s shopping center to the courthouse, where we pass two cemeteries. At each they do a 21 gun salute. It is special because we pass my grandfather’s grave, who served in World War 2. I am glad we get to be part of this and wave to everybody. Afterwards we listened to a speech by a local state senator here, Chris McDaniel, and I was really impressed with his words and his background. It was a very good day.

Pre-School Graduation

B is now officially out of Pre-School, which marks the end of our journey with daycare. I honestly can’t believe it’s over, it’s been 9 years of daycare payments and thousands and thousands of dollars. I think overall we’ve spent $90K here. Despite working from home I never felt comfortable taking B out and keeping him with me. There was always some fear I would go back into an office and be scrambling to find care. Since COVID happened, it is very difficult to find a space for daycare. I believe there is a six month waiting list for B’s and it’s not even close to being the cheapest one in town. Nonetheless we had a lot of memories here and now B starts school in the fall. Thank goodness for state funded kindergarten, this was a huge help to us!

High School Graduation

My nephew graduated from high school. He had a very successful four years at Covington Catholic. We are very proud of him and his accomplishments. It was cool watching him play football on Friday nights in front of that raucous crowd. It was also cool seeing all of the friends he made. He’ll be continuing his football career at the college level and we look forward to witnessing his future successes.
