Axe Throwing

I tried axe throwing for the first time and I am surprisingly good at it. Once I learned the technique I started nailing it. People thought I was practicing at home before I came so I could show them up, but that’s not the case. I was just really enjoying myself and I payed attention to the instructions. It’s a several step process. Left foot forward, right arm into a square, stare at the center, slow release. The latter is the most important. You only want one turn of that axe. Throw it hard and that thing bounces off of the target every time.

Dinner At Dee Felice

We had such a wonderful dinner at Dee Felice. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Covington. I just love Cajun/Creole food. They also had a jazz trio playing so we had the added bonus of listening to them. They were really good, although I am not a good judge of jazz because I rarely listen to it. For cocktail, I ordered a hurricane, which was sweeter than what I expected. I also ordered the jambalaya and the lobster mashed potatoes. The latter was insanely good, I would just order two of those next time I come down. EDIT 8/7/23 – Dee Felice’s is now out of business after 30+ years, so this was the last I’ll ever get to eat here. So sad!

New Coffee Pot

After our last Scout camping trip I decided to purchase this massive 28 cup coffee maker. It is an old fashioned percolator, which I’ve never used, so I guess I’ll need to figure that out. It’s actually called the “scout-master”! I also bought a small duel fuel burner that I can place on a pop up table. It burns propane which I have plenty of so no worries there. I am glad I bought this honestly. Not having coffee at camp sucks, especially if you are a regular coffee drinker. I’ll bring this to Cub World too. Last year they didn’t start serving coffee until breakfast after 8:30. For most of us we’ve already had our coffee by then so the headaches kick in pretty quick. This does make me wonder if I should end my coffee addiction once and for all, of course, this is probably the least bothersome thing I ingest.

School Picnic

Ted had his end of year picnic and I went over and had lunch with him. I decided to treat him to Subway. He’s wanted to try it for awhile (this kid loves sandwiches) and he is a fan of the cold cut combo plain. People thought it was funny that I brought two beach chairs to sit in. I almost brought the shade tent as well, that really would’ve had people talking. I am so glad I got to be there for that experience. It is funny seeing how he interacts with other children and see some of the teachers and put names with faces.
