Nakashima’s Japanese-Style Home and Workshop

Nakashima’s Japanese-Style Home and Workshop

This is just a neat video about an interesting man’s home. George Nakashima built a Japanese style home and workshop in Pennsylvania. Born in Spokane, grew up as a Boy Scout, graduate MIT, travelled around the world to Europe and India, where he taught people how to build reinforced concrete. Back at home, he and his young family were held at a Japanese Internment Camp, then travelled to Pennsylvania to work as a chicken farmer so they could leave the camp, worked for the landowner who gave him property to build his workshop, where he did that and built his home and eventually his successful furniture business using reclaimed wood.

Celebrating craftsmanship, art, inspiration, and tradition. I enjoyed this video.
