Dinner With Siblings
We found ourselves with a rare night without kids, one went camping with the Boy Scouts and the other to a friend’s house for a birthday party. We met my siblings at a Mexican restaurant. The food wasn’t that good though unfortunately! We honestly didn’t take advantage of not having kids on Saturday night. It kind of fell into our lap due to a last minute reschedule of the camping trip, and I spent most of Saturday working on studying, and we already had dinner plans, so we stuck with them.
Back to the food, not so great. Yes, I ordered the hamburger at a Mexican restaurant, but they had an entire PAGE of their menu dedicated to their burgers! How could I not expect that they would at least be somewhat good. What stinks is this was the second bad cheeseburger I’ve had in a row. We also got cheeseburgers at Five Guys recently and I was not impressed. That burger was dry and overcooked and just plain meh. Maybe I am getting too picky, but I don’t think eating out is good anymore. A good burger is harder than you think, with thicker patties being worse because they’re too easy to overcook and they overpower the rest of the ingredients. Burgers need to be thin and greasy with good texture. I am going to say this, but Wendy’s burgers are fantastic. I’ve never had a bad burger from them. Great consistency, great burgers, fresh never frozen, I am a Wendy’s fan.
Children’s Activities
We are back in the swing of things with lots of children’s activities – that didn’t take long! Ben is playing the drums, he’ll be doing coach pitch baseball, Cub Scouts, and archery. Ted will be doing both violin and saxophone, archery, math tutoring, and Boy Scouts. Swimming and tennis are winding down. We are just back to being really busy again. My wife bears the brunt for most of the running around when I get busy with work and/or school. I go to as much as I can, I do not desire being an absent father, and nobody who knows me could ever claim that I am one. But it’s just too much sometimes, with every night being busy, and just kind of hoping no more than one item falls on a night. I am a firm believer in developing children and teaching them the power and joy of achievement. There is a lot of value in teaching kids how to be resilient, to practice at their craft, and to put in the effort and see themselves approve.
Perhaps we can get together and all of us agree on what nights we should do things. Maybe Monday is scouting nights, Tuesday is sports night, Wednesday is tutoring/music night, and Thursday can be another sport night. All games are Saturday mornings, no afternoon games that will mess up plans or Sunday morning games where we’re missing Church. Can we do this my fellow Americans?
Summer Winding Down
Summer is coming to a close. I’m not sure what my feelings are on the matter. I like when summer ends when I’m completely tired of it but not a minute before, meaning the heat has just got too much for me and I’m ready for cooler weather. That just wasn’t the case this summer. It started off rainy and chilly and didn’t really get up in heat until July, then got super hot and stayed that way. I also started my MBA so I didn’t get much done either outside, spending many weekends studying. I did spend a week and a half camping in the heat and I don’t foresee me doing that ever again. I think I made it to the pool twice, and Kings Island once. I should also add about Kings Island though, they had a cicada season there and I just didn’t feel like dealing with it.
Hopefully fall will be terrific and long. I’m not keen on another long winter. Last winter was cold with just no real breakup in it. We try to get out in all four seasons though, and the holidays are special.
