Drive In Movies – Starlite
I wanted to visit the Starlite Auto Theater in Amelia, OH for Father’s Day. The boys wanted to watch “How To Train Your Dragon,” a live action remake of an animated movie and franchise they enjoyed. It was a nice pleasant evening weather wise, the rain stopped right as we arrived, and I enjoyed spending time with my family out of doors. I will say the best benefit of Starlite is their vanilla double malts, which are the creamiest in Greater Cincinnati, and of course I had my fill on them. The only complaint I have about Starlite is the same complaint I have for Ohio events in general – it is the omnipresent odor of marijuana. If you can’t drink alcohol why is it OK to smoke marijuana in public? I don’t have a problem with marijuana, you’ll never get me to believe it is more dangerous than alcohol, however I just don’t want to smell it ALL THE TIME. You would think these electric vape pens would make it smell less, but maybe they are smoking flower in pipes, I’m not sure, but it’s just this everlasting pungent smell. Concerts are even worse.
The boys enjoyed the movie, admittedly I zoned out a bit and read some of Ben Horowitz’s “The Hard Things About Hard Things” which I am really enjoying. It’s a book about his days in Silicon Valley leading businesses and his travails with them as they succeeded and failed. I’m becoming more interested in these types of things as I work through my MBA program.
Father’s Day
We celebrated Father’s Day here at the house and then went over to see Leslie’s dad for lunch. My wife made my favorite breakfast – biscuits and gravy. She is a wonderful cook. There is no greater pleasure than a spouse who can cook and will cook for you. I had an exam to take in the morning but I was able to complete it on time. Speaking of my MBA program, I’ve not had the fortune of going to Church much. Sundays are my exam day and I hope my next class schedule lets me get back into Church again, or at least I will make a point of it.
Cycling Safety – Troop
We spent an evening with the Troop learning about how to cycle safely in a group. There is a campout coming up but we won’t be able to attend that camp because we will be out of town that weekend. I am looking forward to that upcoming trip, it should be a lot of fun. We will go to Pigeon Forge and Dollywood for two days, then spend two days going around the GSMNP and hopefully getting some quality hiking in the mountains. We’ve never been to the area in summer. Most of our trips here are either in the fall, namely October, and in December, where we usually go to Dollywood for Christmas in the Smokies.
