Masters Program, Birthday Party, Cub Scouts
Master’s Program Review
I’ve been on the fence about going back to school for a master’s degree but I believe I’ve made up my mind. I want to go to NKU, where I got one of my undergraduate degrees because they have an online program that is very affordable. I am stuck between an MBI (Master of Business Informatics) and an MBA. After much thought and talking with an NKU counselor I am going to chose an MBA with a focus in Data Analytics. I want to take my skills to the next level and wanted the MBI initially but I don’t see enough value in their program. First off, no mention of Python in the course curriculum, but rather a focus on R, which makes me think they aren’t as Machine Learning focus as I hoped. It is impossible to do Data Engineering without Python. R is a statistical modeling language. It makes me think the focus here is more on Data Science, and if so, why not call it Data Science? The MBA therefore made more sense because I can stack up skills in technology and get the MBA after my name.
Birthday Party, Cub Scouts
My older son had his friend birthday party at Scene 75. We took the boys up there and let them go nuts playing games, riding go-carts, and playing mini-golf. We then fed them chicken fingers, French fries and as much soda as they could drink. It was nice seeing my son with his friends. For many years he struggled making friends and he seems to have figured it out. His friends are all really funny and they all seem to enjoy each other’s company. I guess that was his birthday present from us, some time with his dudes to bond.
After that I took my younger son to Cub World to hang out with his Pack. He needed some times with boys his own age. When you’re the little one you kind of get knocked around. He wanted to be with his brother and friends but being a head shorter doesn’t help. He ended up helping wash dishes and didn’t complain at all about it. He likes to work. He’s a lot like my wife. He just gets up and gets things done. Many times you don’t even have to ask him to do it, he just does it. He likes his things orderly and clean, he always wants to do his best, and he seems to make friends easily, is good at sports, and judging by the awards he takes home from school, a teacher’s pet. I can’t believe how lucky I am to have two great sons to call my own. Talk about dreams coming true.
Other Updates
I needed to fix my sleeping schedule, I found my AM workouts are suffering because I’m not getting enough rest. I started doing a daily workout while I work which is broken down into a circuit type made up of 8 exercises with one set each. I do four of those during the day. Each circuit takes about 10 minutes. I tend to do one when I am context switching, aka moving onto a new task, as a way to reset and grab a some movement. I think that was just more exercise than I could handle on 6 or so hours of sleep, especially given that I’m exercising 12 hours a week as it is now. I am getting bed at 9:00 sharp, so I can wake up at 5:00 feeling good. I did miss my first workout of the week not because of getting enough sleep but because the power at the gym went out!
I’ve also started a keto diet, I’ve been lifting pretty regularly and swimming and I’ve bulked up a lot and one to cut without losing muscle mass. Not at all easy at my age but I think the program I worked out will benefit my goals. Honestly, this is the most frustrating part of this whole process. In the old days I’d lift and lose a ton of weight without even trying, but now everything has to be carefully measured and accounted for or I’ll bulk up like a D1 defensive lineman.
