Trap Shooting Is Fun Again
To be completely honest, the majority of my hobbies took a backseat when I became a dad. I did try to keep up with them, but the time constraints didn’t allow it. After a time though, most dads probably find that their hobbies become their kids and their kid’s interests and that was certainly my experience. For example, most of my free time was spent in Cub Scouting leadership training, planning, and events. I did that pretty exclusively with my free time for several years and I learned a lot and made a lot of friends. I also coached soccer teams, attended Tae Kwon Do and archery tournaments, recitals, and learned about what interests them like Minecraft and funny short videos. They lead much more interesting lives than I did at that age and I am glad they are getting the opportunities.
However, I am at the point where I realize I probably need a way to unwind, and probably need something that I can do alone with adult friends. I rarely drink, and I do not care for bars, so a Friday night end of week hangout there is not my idea of fun. I like to workout, but that is more physical than mental. I need something I can do and try to get better at, and since I do not like golf, it has to be something else. I do have access to trap shooting as a member of Dutchman’s, so I am going to try that today.
How was my shooting? Not too great, I went 31 out of 50, but so did most other people. It was windy. But it was fun and I relaxed. The guys at the club made me laugh. They asked how I was doing and listened and I appreciated that honestly. I got to be around people for a bit and when I went home I felt a little better. I am already looking forward to the next shoot.
