Zoo Trip with Class

I had the pleasure of accompanying my son and his classmates to the Cincinnati Zoo. I acted as the chaperone. I had four boys with me and three other chaperones. It was a lot of fun watching them interact with the animals. It was a cold day so not many animals were out, but those that were out were happy to see people. There were some funny interactions between them and the chimpanzees that I will not soon forget. It was also one boy’s first ever visit to the zoo so I made sure we saw everything. They were tired at the end but I am sure we saw more than what other people saw. I felt blessed to spend that day with him.

I love the zoo, I recently said that the zoo is my happy place and that is the truth. I love spending my time there whenever I can go, which is usually once a month year round. The blooms were just starting for Zoo Blooms also, which is a cool event where all the tulips bloom and there is color everywhere. It’s pretty cool to see all of the different variations of them.

Cincinnati Art Museum Visit

We had to visit the art museum to help Ted finish out an Art merit badge. One of the requirements is to visit a local museum. Luckily we have a pretty decent one in Cincinnati. The admission is also free which you cannot beat either. We saw some of my favorite pieces in their collection, including Franz Kline’s Horizontal Rust. We also ate lunch at their restaurant there, which was tasty. The boys thought the museum was OK, they are older now but not quite art museum old at this point.

I would like to come back to the museum and spend a little more time looking around at some of the art. Art is something that you have to look at for a long time to appreciate, and that is hard when two little ones are pulling you through the museum, or you are trying to see the entire collection in a day. I especially want to spend a little more time in the pottery portion where they showcase Rookwood Pottery. I spent a few years working in their old office building in Mount Adams so I recognize a lot of the rooms that are in the video that shows the artists, which is cool.
