Magic The Gathering

I purchased the Magic the Gathering Commander pack for Lord of the Rings. A coworker recommended purchasing one if I wanted to get into the game. I noticed MTG was big with the Scouts, so I thought it would be cool to do it with Ted. So far I’ve not been able to sit down and look at the game itself, but I can tell this thing is complex and intense. I actually need Ted to figure this out and show me or watch some videos and figure it out. It seems fun and I’m always up for discovering new things and there are a ton of videos to learn from on YouTube.

Boy Scout Camping Weekend and Advancement

I did not camp with the Boy Scouts this weekend because I had to get some homework done, but we did come back to see their Court of Honor. Ted received three badges and his first ranking. He was ready for his second but there was not anyone available to do his Scoutmaster conference, so he’ll rank up again in October. I do like the Bob White Club. Their facilities are a little well developed compared to Dutchman’s, I would like to take some of their ideas and install them over to my club. I am curious if we could lay in some more targets besides that one that we have currently in our archery range. Bob White also had a high deck to simulate archery from a bow stand, which was an interesting, if not a little over the top choice, as the mechanics don’t really change based on the angle you shoot. There were some stations in the woods that had 3-D targets that I thought was cool and would like to copy.

I am thankful the Bob White Club let the Scouts out there to use their property. That was greatly appreciated and showed a strong commitment to our community.

NKU Rec Center

We took the boys over to the NKU Rec Center. As a student I get a deeply discounted family pass. We ended up using the bouldering wall, swam and jumped off the diving board, and played racquetball. The boys used a treadmill for the first time, which they thought was cool. Sundays are wonderful days to come over to NKU, the campus is nearly empty on that day and the parking garage is empty. We will most likely cancel our Silverlake membership for the next two years and just come here instead.

Also, I saw my first dodge-ball tournament with NKU taking on UC. It was wild. I wanted to go out and coach the NKU team so bad. NKU looked to be losing consecutively as the UC team kept pushing them back against the wall. The NKU team never took the initiative and pushed the UC team back by taking the ball and charging up to the center line. People run to the back line to put some distance between the throwers, but being back that far really hampers your ability to pick up loose balls and maneuver, because everyone is squished together. I think NKU lost every game.
