Queens of the Stone Age
I’ve been on a bit of a concert kick recently having several shows lined up this summer. One of the benefits of the streaming era is that groups need to perform live to supplement income now, no more half-effort touring like they are the Beatles. There are many groups large and small that are coming to my region that skipped it in the past, including my favorite bands from a decade or more ago. There are also several new concert venues in the area so booking shows for these bands is easier. A band many years ago that would’ve played at Riverbend (our largest concert venue besides the sports stadiums), now can play at three smaller, more modern venues (with one more on the way). It’s a great time to be a music fan honestly.
I tend to go to many shows solo. My wife and I don’t share the same taste in some of my music (we are both country music fans though). I am an old metal head, and although metal seems to be dying out there are lots of the old groups (QOTSA is metal adjacent) that are coming around. I saw Queens of the Stone Age at the Bradley center, which is downtown. It is a newer venue and although is mostly standing room only I managed to snag a seat. The show was great, they played a lot of the music I like and added in some unexpected songs (I creep peeped the set list). Again, my one complain about anything in Ohio is the overwhelming pot smell, but other than that I enjoyed my evening there.
Top Golf
We celebrated my nephew’s birthday part at Top Golf. We all had fun. What is interesting is my wife especially enjoyed it and is now looking at golf clubs. I am encouraging her to try it, her father and her sisters enjoy golf. I personally can hit the ball but I just don’t enjoy golf. I’ll admit I am looking at golf clubs but that is only so we as a family can golf together. I do not know why I don’t care much for golf. Maybe I am just hesitant about getting into something that eats up time and focus that I’d rather put elsewhere in parts of my life that could use some attention. Top Golf is fun, it’s like an arcade version of golf. It’s easy to play if you get up on the third tier, where bad shots can often score at least something. The view on the first floor is completely different. I’ve only played on the third floor and I’ve only been to Top Golf twice. We are talking about going again.
Dutchman’s Rod and Gun Club
A great Saturday spent at the club with my sister and her kids and my family. It was fairly hot outside so we set up the shade tent and tried to take it easy a little bit. We did leave and go to a local restaurant for dinner to cool off. I originally planned to grill/run the smoker but we opted for the air conditioning instead. Evidently there is a hot dome over top of us that is trapping in heat and making everyone relatively miserable.
Other Updates
I wrapped up MGT-605 this week, submitted my paper, took the last quiz, and submitted my last discussion point. As of this point I am a high A so I did well right off the bat. My next class is supposed to be most difficult. I will have two weeks off from studying so I will try to use that time wisely. I know one half week will be spent in the Great Smokey Mountain National Park area and Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN.
