Bin Building

We are finally finished building the bin with only finishing touches to be done, like adding in the windows and painting, which aren’t that difficult of an undertaking. I am excited to be able to put this behind us. It took four of us to finish the project and I think all of us learned something. I am looking forward to clearing the pathway to our future home projects as building the barn takes care of this for us. Our next move will be taking everything from the garage and moving it into the bin. Next we will move the basement storage into the garage, then we will move the basement around and then finish it by building walls, a half bath, and electricity. This a major transformation of the house and the only way we could get it done was to add additional floor space by bringing in an outbuilding. Because of this I don’t have much other to report from this week, it’s been nothing but the barn in the little free moments I can get on the weekend and after work.

Raspberry Pi 5

I wanted a Linux distribution to practice my tech solutions on and work through my tutorials. Yes, I could’ve dual booted my Windows PC but I didn’t want to take any chances corrupting my hardware since I also use to log into my job. I could use WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) but I’m finding that option is just kind of OK, and I’d rather not worry about something not working because it’s a WSL issue. Luckily Raspberry 5s are a thing so I purchased one, installed Ubuntu on it, and got a “Hello World” in Python. I did purchase the case, mouse, keyboard, and monitor that are all from Raspberry Pi so it matches. Special thanks to Microcenter Mall for keeping it in stock. The setup looks pretty cool put together and works well so far.

Other Updates

My MBA is going along well with my first class, which is MGT-605, Leadership in Organizations. I added a page to account for it so I can track my progress and create a journal on it. I’m trying to stay on top of it which means every night I need to do something in the course to stay current, with exams taken on Sunday morning while I’m fresh. Sometimes I’ll just rewatch a lecture to ensure I didn’t miss anything. I also met with my team this week and we worked on our project together. Three very intelligent people. I notice I am the oldest student in the group and most likely the course, which surprised me, but reading through some of the student bios they posted, it seems younger people are getting out with their bachelors and are unable to find work so they’re up-skilling. There are also many, many people in healthcare in the program too.

Finally, I’m realizing how much I’ve turned things around the last few years. I fixed my terrible sleep schedule, my lack of physical activity, and now I’m putting effort into this last half of my career. I don’t drink alcohol and I’m righting my nutrition. I am good at what I do and I am recognized for it.

My forties are turning out to be as good as my thirties, and way better than my twenties, which were in retrospect a disappointment. The moral of the story is just to persevere, to not get discouraged when things don’t work out, as they often do, and be resilient and adaptive when times are tough. As long as you put in the effort you will see results.
