MBA Acceptance

It is official, I am going after my MBA with a focus in Data Analytics. I am really excited about it, a little nervous, but excited. I am going to take one class first to get my feet wet, and since I’m paying out of pocket, this is the easier approach. Northern Kentucky University’s program really fits what I want to do and into my schedule. It will be all online, so I don’t get the benefit of a cohort, but the classes are really interesting. In all honesty I was put off by a Master’s degree. I received a BSBA from a top business school in our area and it was really, really hard. I didn’t see a difference between myself who went down this path than say someone who majored in Communications or Music and got an MBA and into business. But, the market may not agree with me. I am choosing the Data Analytics focus to continue what I am doing now. I didn’t see myself concentrating in any other areas. For example, there is a Project Management focus but I could most likely get my PMP with what I know now. The DA focus also lets me bring a little tech in with me so I am excited for it.

Violin Recital

This might be Ted’s last violin recital, I’m not sure yet. He starts saxophone lessons soon, which means he may not have time for both instruments. We’re letting him make up his mind on how he wants to do it honestly. I don’t want it to be one of those things that later in life he’s like “yeah I played violin for two years” but gave it up, then in middle age tries to buy one and lets it sit and do nothing. But I digress, he will most likely enjoy the saxophone though. He is looking forward to being in band when he’s in high school. I didn’t go to a high school that had a band, but people who were in it really loved it.

Day At the Club

I took my sister and her kids and Ted to Dutchman’s for a day of outdoorsmanship. We had target practice and fished. We both caught a nice four pounder out of the upper lake. It was just an absolutely beautiful day. Ted had a wonderful time that morning with me.

Other Updates

I’m reaching into the Pluralsight training sessions in Skills that I now have access to via my subscription to A Cloud Guru. I am working specifically on APIs and ORM (SQL Alchemy). My job’s changed a bit where I am more research focused and need tech skills to contribute. I just have a wonderful collection of online resources to me, I just wish I had the time. For real, like six months and I could become an absolute technical expert in my field.

Now that we finished all seasons of the Big Bang Theory, we are now watching Malcolm in the Middle. Great memories of watching this in the late nineties. I didn’t realize how little these guys were in the show. Dewey was only a few years older than my youngest son when they started filming it. I appreciate the show but I do wonder if little guys like that need to be working full time on television shows.
