Return To NKFF

I returned to a monthly meeting of the Northern Kentucky Fly Fishers. It is hard to explain how much this organization meant to me in my own development. I was very active here, and at one point its president. The 100 or so members during my time became a big portion of my social life, and I’d say all of my friends were older fly fishers. I went on vacations with them, weekend trips, spent a lot of time with them. It was awesome bringing around this group of guys, and I got a lot out of being with them. They were all really great role models whether they know it or not, and taught me way more than fly fishing. Everything I learned from leadership I learned from them, and I apply those principles to my work in non-profit work, specifically the BSA. 100% of the success I’ve had in that organizations is because of what these guys taught me.

When I arrived it was like a little homecoming. I’ve not seen many of them in a long time. One thing I did notice was how we’ve all aged. When I ran with these dudes I was in my twenties and they were in their fifties/sixties. Now we’re all a few decades older. They are still the same cantankerous bunch although not nearly as rowdy as they used to be.

Pack 808 Game Night

Our first game night with the Pack! We wanted a winter activity and noticed that our scouts enjoyed playing chess together and Minecraft, so we put together a really great event where they just totally knocked it out of the park! We ended up with lots of really great games and fun things to do, pizza to eat, and I even played some Dungeons and Dragons, which I’ve never attempted. They even gave me some dice to keep so I can go on my own future adventure. That was a great gift and I appreciated it.

Our Scouting year’s been really great so far. I am winding down my time as Cubmaster though, and I’ll move over to Pack Committee Chairman next. That’s a more crunchy role, my job will be to work on the pack, develop leaders, get them trained, handle business with the District and Council, and get things done for us. I am glad to take a leadership role, I am actually really good at it, but that is because I just believe in our mission and I want to serve the youth here.

Cincinnati Symphony

My wife and I had a little date getaway to the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the Appalachian Spring. Afterwards we went to Zundo for Ramen, which was very tasty. It was a nice little getaway for us, and we really needed some 1:1 time just the two of us.
