Knotty Pine On The Bayou, Catching Up At The House

Knotty Pine On The Bayou

Since we weren’t able to get our usual Fat Tuesday meal since Dee Felice’s closed down in Covington, we made a trip over to Knotty Pine on the Bayou to dry out their dinner menu. I’ve not been here in awhile. The restaurant is kind of run down but the food was decent. I didn’t expect to walk out of there with a $200 bill though but I guess that’s the cost of seafood now. The food was kind of salty but there’s not much around here that serves Cajun food anymore.

I ordered the etouffee and the red beans and rice, although I could only finish the first dish. I also ordered fried oysters, which were good, and some crab cakes. L got a Kentucky Mule and now we are drinking those at the house also. The boys ordered cheeseburgers/chicken tenders and got a free ice cream. They did like both of their meals.

Catching Up At The House

I’ve spent a lot of time preparing for a major overhaul here at the house. My first move is to get the boys separated and into their own rooms. To do that, I’ve needed to move my office downstairs so that space is freed up. To do that I need to organize the basement so there is space for me. This has snowballed into a fairly large project. In a few weeks we’ll be building a bin in the backyard and moving all of the stuff in the garage to it. Then we’ll move more stuff downstairs into the hanging shelves in the garage. Then we’ll be finishing the basement, including adding a full time office for me and another bathroom, which would make our house 2.5 baths.

Since I don’t have much time to do these things, I’ve decided to dedicate our spring break to making some major moves. I’ll build the bin that week, get it roofed and painted and storage moved into it. Once that is complete, I’ll have enough garage space to move lumber into so I can start framing the basement. I plan on doing that some every weekend, where I’ll do a portion here and there. I will most likely start with the sump pump, then the furnace room, then the first girder wall. Then frame the rest and call in the electrician and then plumber. To make that happen though I need to get the floor completed. There is just too much work to get done at this point!
