Winterfest

Our annual KI Winterfest trip is complete. This year we went with Leslie’s two sisters and their family, which was nice. I like being around them, they are a lot of fun and kind to me even after all of these years. The weather was absolutely perfect for our visit, which meant big crowds in the evening. We did walk around the entire park and see the lights though, although every restaurant was full and even lines for snack shacks wrapped around the block. The early bird gets the worm here for sure so we were able to do what we wanted to which meant eating what we wanted because we arrived first thing that day.

The boys at first were like “I’m not hungry” but they did eat anyway, one had bacon on a stick and pretzel and then eventually grilled cheese sandwiches. They’ve not locked onto the concept of eating when you’re not hungry so you don’t have to eat later when food may not be available or may be more expensive. How many times we’ve walked into an amusement park, museum, or zoo and immediately had to buy food because the boys refused to eat a meal before we left! I know that makes me sound crotchety but a meal at the zoo is like $70 for the four of us, so yes it does add up. If I were smart I’d use the KI pass buying process as a Christmas present, in fact, all of these passes as a Christmas present would help out tremendously, instead I just keep buying the three of them (CMC, Zoo, KI) and we keep going to them.

Cincinnati Pops

Our tradition of going to the Pops is complete. We had fun, the music was really stirring. Last year it was more exuberant, and I guess John Morris Russell mixes things up so they stay interesting. They played a lot of music that I like, and I will say this because this is my blog and nobody reads it anyway, I cried when they played “Mary Did You Know?” In fact, I cry every time I hear that song there I’ll admit it. How can you imagine a mother, holding her child, and knowing that child was the son of God? How would she react? Read the lyrics to the song, they are absolutely beautiful.

Some notable performances included a powerful violin solo, an opera singer, and a jazz singer. Lots of great music, and some fun including a Jingle Bells piece where everyone downloaded an app and shook their phones to sound like a jingle bell.

Cub Scout Christmas Party

Our Cub Scout Christmas party was an absolute hit! The food was delicious, I smoked pork tenderloins for everyone, and people brought all kinds of food to share. Then one of the scout’s grandparent dressed up as Santa so kids got to see Santa and get their pictures taken with him which saved them some time for sure! I am so glad I get to be around this group, they are all spectacular people who care and I’ve learned so much from them.
