Cincinnati Zoo

We made a visit to the Cincinnati Zoo but left before evening. It was a beautiful, sunny day and I wanted to get out of the house. The boys complained about being there while wearing their church clothes but I don’t think that was an issue. In the old days people used to wear dress shoes and suits in public, even to the zoo, so I think it’s OK they we were wearing a collared shirt. We arrived and ate lunch first since it was that time. The Zoo Cantina provides decent food, although we noticed the water fountains were turned off. We ended up spending $4 a can for water so I think we’ll pre-plan this better. I should add this was a spur of the moment trip and we came here because we were visiting our old church in Ludlow, KY which is right across the river from Cincinnati.

We enjoyed seeing the Festival of Lights display being setup. We will come back in the evening before the year’s end. I still want the goal of visiting the Cincinnati Zoo every month for one year to see how it changes and because I really, really like the zoo.

Cincinnati Museum Center

Given we had some Sunday left, we decided to visit the Cincinnati Museum Center. We also have passes here and we’ve not been coming here often enough. The CMC is really starting to take off. They are adding some much needed attractions and exhibits in it and fleshing out the science portion of it. I learn a lot coming here and I enjoy it. The boys like the caves of course, and my favorite is probably the space exhibit. I’ve been reading a lot of books on physics, and there is an exhibit there that shows how Einstein perceived gravity and space-time that is pretty cool.

One thing I noticed while there was how they added more science to the runway in the natural science section with a focus on prehistoric history in our area. Our area doesn’t have much in terms of dinosaur fossils, why? Well, we used to be under a warm ocean for millions of years! They have an exhibit that explores that world and they are leaning into the area’s ice-age importance as being at the tail end of the glaciers and what that means for our geography today and the plants and animals that live here, and also lived here.
