A Tour Of My Favorite Places – Bodyshape

A Tour Of My Favorite Places – Bodyshape

Bodyshape is a local gym I frequent several times a week, typically during my lunch period. It is private and locally owned. Although we are members at a family fitness center (Silverlake), it is fairly difficult for me to get over there and be back within an hour so I needed something more local. Since I also work from home, my lunch period is the perfect time to get my workout in since there is no one to complain about my body odor from it LOL. Plus, my wife is fit so I need to keep up with her too.

I joined Bodyshape because of their proximity to my home. We were actually members here once before we had kids years ago but cancelled it when I started driving way out to West Chester and it made more sense to join an LA Fitness closer to that office. Now we are back and sorry I ever left now that I realize I could’ve just worked out in the mornings. It is open 24 hours a day and open 365 days a week. There is never a wait on a machine. Everyone here is super cool and practice good gym etiquette (re-wracking weights, wiping down machines, no talcum powder). The owner, Anthony, also keeps it very clean. This is something greatly appreciated if you’ve ever been a regular gym goer (LA Fitness gave me a bacterial infection TWICE).

Bodyshape is more of your weight lifters gym, with some cardio equipment available to round it out (as opposed to a large chain gym like Urban Active which is heavily cardio focused). Anthony fits a lot into this little space, and likes to experiment with layout from time to time. He also brings in new equipment and a recent addition with some isolated chest machine exercises has me very happy. My cardio is mostly relegated to a spinning bike and Apple Fitness class on it. Just this bit though helps quite a bit with twice a week workouts doing it (everything else is weights).

I’ve been working out off and on for years and I really enjoy weight lifting as opposed to cardio. Just let me zone out and get my pump on! That moment when you get out of your warmup and the adrenaline starts pumping is the absolute best. Your muscles wake up and you feel alive! For me, working out is a huge boon to my mood and attitude. When I skip working out for a week or so I can feel it not only on my body but emotionally too. I hate losing gains, it really bums me out. Plus, being jacked changes the way people treat you. They are just cooler, more friendly toward you. Fat people unfortunately are discriminated against and passed over as they’re seen as lazy or whatever other bad connotation. This is just a fact of life and you can get a head easier if you’re in shape. Plus the strength! I can life nearly anything in the house and blast up stairs. It’s like they say – strength to keep you out of the nursing home, cardio to keep you out of the hospital.
