Indian Rocks Beach – The Review
We are back from a terrific week at Indian Rocks Beach, Florida. The weather was perfect everyday, with a little wind earlier in the week. By the time we left, temperatures were in the 80s and the water was like glass. Unbelievably we didn’t get any rain during this week, a rare occurrence in Florida during the spring.
The trip down was pleasant. We made great time as we didn’t run into much traffic, actually I think we made the best time down we’ve ever made. Usually we deal with rain, but besides some flash icing around Lexington, we didn’t experience much of anything. Again we stayed in Fort Oglethorpe on Friday and made the rest of the trip Saturday. Interesting stops included lunch at Ole Times Buffet in Macon, GA and Bass Pro Shops in Gainesville, FL. By the way, Gainesville is blowing up. Every time we visit there is something new and this town is turning into an interesting place to maybe live one day. I also like this Bass Pro Shop because the taxidermy is superb – including some of the best fish taxidermy I’ve seen in one place.
Plans for the week were simple – do nothing. Typically we jam in a bunch of experiences, but we decided this time to spend as much time on the beach. The only excursions we took was a visit to George C McGough Nature Park, P.J.’s Oyster Bar, and a few stores as needed. I did get my first ever sushi burrito, which I loved. I’ve wanted to eat at PHO forever since we always stop at Target in Largo, and I finally got my chance. We did eat many of our meals in the condo, grilled out two nights, and ordered a delicious coal fired pizza also.
The condo was amazing by the way. Newly renovated and modernized made our stay ever more enjoyable. It is totally worth staying on the beach down there and not worrying about parking or walking anywhere. We also made some new friends while my son palled around with another boy and dug a pretty deep hole together out on the beach (this was his only goal for the week – dig a deep hole). We’ve been down there four out of the last five years, and I really hope we can visit another five years or maybe more God willing.
The only new visit was George C McGough Nature Park. It was only a few minutes from the condo so we checked it out (aka the turtle park). They had a turtle pond, zip line, small museum, bird sanctuary, nature walk, and boardwalk. We actually enjoyed it, it was free, clean, and very pretty. I love old Florida and seeing the nature down there and imagining what it looked like before it was mowed down and drained.
The drive back was good too. I flew them home so they could be back in time for Easter while I drove. I stopped at a Buccee’s, which I loved, and a Bass Pro Shops in Acton GA to buy my oldest a birthday present. All in all this was a wonderful trip. I am so grateful we got to experience it. You never know what will happen in life and I am glad we got some great memories this week.
