Batman – White Knight
I enjoy reading digital comics, particularly those featuring Batman. He’s my favorite DC character by a long shot with Nightwing and the Flash making a strong case to round out my top three. Batman is an incredibly complex character. His relationship with Joker is even more. If you want an entertaining take on it, read the 8 part series “Batman – White Knight”. It’s heavy on story and character development with an interesting twist at the end. Imagine what would happen if the Joker seemingly cures himself of his psychopathy and uses his intelligence to turn Gotham against Batman’s vigilantism. You’d probably think how and why people would buy into it, especially coming from someone as despicable as the Joker.
However, if you think about it, we all root for Batman but in real life would we? At the end of the day, he’s not the police. He isn’t particularly interested in protecting people’s constitutional rights. He works outside of the law, tolerated by it despite his incredible violence and the property damage left in his wake. What if that violence is caught on tape? What if that property damage actually gets quantified? How would the people of Gotham react knowing their city government reserves money to pay for it, and it’s a lot?
Joker is a villain, but he’s really only been convicted of a few petty crimes. Take off the makeup and he’s a handsome and affable man. Without his overriding criminal tendencies, his intelligence can be used to plan out a means of cleaning up his image if he can just convince the right people to be on his side. What about Commissioner Gordon? Batgirl, Nightwing? All three have complicated relationships with Batman and maybe we shouldn’t assume their steadfast support of the Dark Knight?
Since I do not collect paper comics, here are the screenshots of the digital comics, which I do collect instead.
