Finally Outside

Finally Outside

We needed to get out of the house and enjoy the spring weather just for a bit. We decided to visit Dutchman’s Rod and Gun, a private club where I am gratefully a member. We grabbed some Wendy’s cheeseburgers and French fries, our first “outside the home” meal in probably a month, and found a picnic table to feast and enjoy the view. This was also the first soft drink I’ve had in a long time and it was soooo good. I really miss Mountain Dew and Coca-Cola but I won’t drink them regularly in light of my last trip to the dentist. I will grant myself the occasional Monster to accompany a late Saturday night gaming session with the fellas but that’s a far cry from what I used to partake in.

We took a hike around the property and the boys enjoyed the playground equipment and digging moss out of the lake with sticks. It was quiet there as most members are practicing safe distancing, but we did see a few friends who were fishing and doing some property maintenance. Usually people are out and about setting up their campers and preparing for our spring shoot during this time of year, but everything for now is off board because of the pandemic.

I had really hoped to be learning how to trap shoot this spring and hopefully that will happen this fall. In the meantime we’ll come back and get some fishing and camping in with the boys, who are really excited about the prospect. For now we are just looking forward to warmer and better weather, and a return to normalcy, whatever that will mean when all of this is over. For us, it was just nice to get out and get some relief from our cabin fever.
